"A Prince therefore being compelled knowingly to adopt the Beast ought choose the Fox & Lion because the Lion cannot defend himself against snares & the Fox cannot defend himself against Wolves. Therefore it is necessary to be a Fox to discover the snares & a Lion to terrify the Wolves."

(Those who rely simply on the Lion do not understand what they are about.)

Slapping, frantic sounds of over-working windshield wipers; Hopping & dragging back & forth across a steamy, rock-chip--cracked windshield.  Resistting the friction, created between the streaky, scratched windshield glass & the hanging, weather-rotted rubber wipers in the intermitten--indifferent, Spring deluge, ushering out the Winter.

Meadow Soprano smacks the peeling foam covering of the off-center steering-wheel with both hands, "Goddamn it!" Being frustrated & half-awake, Meadow was running late. She was stuck in the NYC "AM Rush," in an accident caused taffic jam on the freeway. Finding herself without a cup of coffee & cigarettes.  She stares at at the flashing radio clock giving the wrong time.  Meadow glances at her wrist-watch, "Fuck."

"This car is such a piece a shit," she sighes.  Running her fingers through her wet-showered hair as the dashboard LOW FUEL light flashed on.  "Come on," she whines to herself: "What ELSE, can go wrong?" (Her cell-phone screen turns off--LOW POWER.) "That's just fucking GREAT!" She throws it in her purse.

Meadow (Soprano) Weiss

Meadow is a public defender attorney & She was late for an appointment at the local POLICE Precinct's Jail-house to meet with a new client.  A Jack Black,  a retired military special ops veteran that was arrested & charged with the murder of a homeless person.

Jack Black

Entering a silent, private, sound-insulated investagation room from the noisey Precenct corridor with a small foam cup of jailhouse coffee & her drippy folded umbrealla in tow; Meadow stands it up in the corner behind the heavy green steel door to dry out.

Without peering up, she removed a lap-top & yellow legal writing pad to sit down opposite of her new client sitting at the opposite end of a long wooden table.

"I apologized Mr. Black for my tardiness, but --"You are late."

" Yes I see that." Meadow said.  " I guess I am late." Peering up at the loud-ticking, over-sized wall clock before she glances down at the time on her dead cell phone's black screen. Then she looks at her late grandmother Liva's old wrist-watch. Sighing, Meadow answered: "Well, Mr. Black, I'm here now."

But when Meadow looked up at her new client, Jack Black face to face she was shook.

" Is there something wrong Ms. Weiss?"  Jack Black asked.

Standing strait up out of her chair, Meadow covers her mouth to dash out.  But she struggles to open the heavy green  door to the point of panic & exit to the WOMENS Restroom across the wet fresh mopped hallway floors.

Meadow ran through the gray painted restoom door past a female police officer washing her hands at the sink into an open toliet stall to heave her guts up loudly.

Sgt Stella Brewster

"Oh my," she could hear the officer's echoing voice say as she followed Meadow into the cramped restroom stall.  The female police officer knelt down beside her on the floor before the white porcelian toliet.  Wiping her stringy  fallen hair from Meadow's pastey pale face & holding her limp, weaken body up with her strong hold while quietly cradling her.

           "Morning sickness?"

Meadow peers up with tears in her red glazey eyes to answer the concerned officer, "I sure hope the fuck not."

"Come on let me help you up dear." Almost lifting Meadow up off her feet.  "You're so strong?"

"Here let me wipe off your face & mouth with this cold wet paper towel.  Is that better?"  "Yes--Thank you."

"You're welcome dear." She leads Meadow out to sit down on a chair in the hall.  The officer told the guard to return the prisonier back to his cell while she collected Meadow's things. Meadow didnt look up when Jack Black was being taken out of the conference room & stood to recieve her computer bag & damp umbrella--"You'll need this."  The female officer warmly smiled.  "Yes.  Thank you.  Good day."

SATRIELES MEATS

Meadow left DUMBO for Jersey taking the Tunnel under Hudson River to visit her Aunt Janice at SATRIALES--Meat Market in the Kearny neighborhood.  Arriving she finds her little brother Anthony Soprano Jr. sitting out front at the small round tables with plastic red & white checkered table-clothes.  Meadow walks up grabbing the table-cloth feeling it. "Plastic?--How Tacky!"

Anthony John (AJ) Soprano Jr

"Hey Sis--Yea it's Janice's idea, to save money I guess?"  Hey A.J.--It sounds more like she'd rather throw them away instead of washing them.  "What are you doing?" A.J. holds up a fat drippy droopy Satriale's sandwich smothered with coleslaw, "Eating."

           "You're always eating!"

"Yea?  I'm hurngry. I just finished shooting a round of golf at the Skyline Coarse under the Jersey Bridge in between the rain showers.  What you Golf?  Since when?  Yea, since high school.  I took it as a gym credit to avoid running." Now that, sounds like one of your moves."  Yea, the Lesser of 2 Evils!"

Meadow leans over & kisses A.J.'s cheek.  "What's that for Bing?"

"Oh, I don't know.  Just finish your sandwich!  Where's Janice?"  Meadow takes a paper napkin to wipe the corner of his mouth.  "Give me that!" A.J. glares at her.  "What's wrong with you?"

           "Nothing.  Where is she? "

" Inside, on the phone, talking.  Why?"--"Oh,  Just Girls Talk."

           "What?  Are you pregnant?"--

"No!  Thank-you." & Meadow spins around on her heel to grab the front door to enter. Then she stops, "Hey A.J.?"  (What?)  Meadow flips him off & pokes her long tongue out at her little brother saying, "Fuck You!"  laughing to the sound of the ringing doorbell as she entered the Market.

Inside, Meadow interupts their Aunt Janice in the office on a phone call.  Janice waves for her niece to come in & covered the phone's mouth-piece.  "Hey Bing!  What's up?" Looking sideways up behind her at the wall clock, "Damn it--I'm on Hold!"

"Can we go somewhere & talk?"

           "Is there something wrong Honey?"

           "I don't know?"

"OK, Wait." she holds up her index finger as she listened to the earphone.  "Music."-- Janice slams the reciever down to hang-up.  "Asshole!--Let's go!"  Janice said smiling & taking Meadows arm kissing her cheek.

           Outside, "See you A.J."

"Bye Bing."--(Don't be a Stranger, Sis.)

Meadow asked Janice, "Whose the "Madman Across the Water?"            "Who?"  Meadow points as they get into the car. "Oh, that's Paulie Walnuts!" (Dad's old friend? Wearing a bathrobe & slippers?) "Yea, he thinks that he is "The Chin!" (Who?)  "Nevermind.  He's is in trouble with the Feds & He's using mental illness to avoid going to trial."

"That's terrible. Mental Health is a real issue in our country & He's making a mockery of it--No Wonder, it isn't taken seriously!"

Janice gives her niece a sideways look--"Hungrey?"

"Yea, Sure." (For What?) "Vanillla Milkshake."

"Oh, That sounds Good!" (& Salty French Fries!) "That doesn't, sound Good?" (But it is!)  "I'll take your word for it Meadow!" (So Good!)

"You should try it!"(No Thanks Bing)

III

Sitting down together in a booth at the neighborhood diner with their food trays.  Janice sat across in horror watching Meadow dip her hot, salty french fries in her milkshake.  Making a funny face as Meadow ate the drippy fries.  "Ummm."  Holding the fry up above her head to lick drips running down her arm.  "What?" (Wiping her forearm clean with a napkin) Then she pulls out a long salty fry & dips it in her milkshake saying, "Oh, it's a fat one too!"  Looking up at Janice, with a dirty grin, "Here."

Janice frowns saying she has her own food gesturing, shaking her hanging head.  "Come on Aunt Janice.  Open your mouth. Stick out your tongue.  I know you know how!"

Janice reluctantly obeying, closes her eyes tight as she slowly opens her mouth Meadow held out the drippy, loaded french fry to feed her it. Chew it up & swallow!  You can't "Spit" it out!  Almost causing Janice to cough, laughing & covering her mouth as she swallowed with a smile opening her eyes.  "Well?" ( Its OK. I guess) Janice shakes her head yes as she reaches across the table to steal a second one & Meadow slaps her hand,  "Get your own!" (Just one more)  "OK, just one--more, that's it!" They laugh as Janice agrees, "They are Good!" Meadow dips another & smiles, "See!"

"So Meadow what is it that's bothering you dear?" Janice asked.

"You won't believe this, (Try me) I seen Daddy's murderer today."

"What did you say?"--I seen the man who killed my father, face to face." (Are you sure)  "Yes--No, I'm not.  It all happened so sudden."  (All?) I just looked up & there he was. (Where?) " At the Precinct Jailhouse."

"Did he recongnize you too?" (No, I don't believe so) "How do you know?" (I don't)

"But, I had to run out of the room so fast to puke in the restroom across the hallway! (Really?) "Yes."

"Ahhh I'm sorry about that Princess..."

"When I finished barffing up my guts, a female officer assisted me & had the prisonier returned to his cell, then retrieved my things for me." (That's nice)

"What are you going to do Bing?"  Janice asked, while leaning over the table & Dipping another french fry in Meadow's milkshake.

           "Stop--Dip it in yours."

"I have the right to decline the case, for whatever reason & another attorney will be assigned to it."

Then Janice mistakenly asked, "So what is his name?  What was he charged with?"

"I can't tell you that!" (Why Not?) "Because.  I have swore an Oath." (What kind of Oath?) "For Protecting the Rights of Confidentuality shared  between the client & their lawyer!"

Janice looks blankly, seeing she struck a nerve with her niece.  Circling back around she says, "It's probably not the same person anyway... (Let's eat)

"I'm not hungry.  I'll be waiting in the car."
