MEADOW TO
THE
HOMELESS JESUS
OF NEWARK
AJ had met Meadow downtown Newark for lunch-date & afterwards as they were leaving to return to their parked cars AJ paused to light up a cigarette.
"Can't that wait until you're inside your car?!--You are in Public." Meadow questions half serious & half funning.
"Whatever Carmela!" AJ cracks off. A sharp jab that Meadow allows to roll off her back knowing she stepped right into that with a warm grin.
"OK--DADDY!" & She spins atop her heel to pivot when AJ looks up to exhale & says:
"CHRIST ALMIGHTY!--LOOK ITS JESUS!"
AJ points across the street at the "Homeless Jesus" of Newark shirtless--Sweaty dragging a large wooden cross down the sidewalk.
"AJ--DON'T. " Meadow beckons as she takes her little brother's near arm.
"DON'T WHAT? SIS!" AJ toyed & smirks taking a deep drag of his cigarette--Knowing exactly what she was going to say.
"Don't Make Fun--He's Not Right." Meadow replied dropping her head speaking soft and sincere.
AJ chuckles exhaling a cloud of smoke over his head: "Not Right?" He prods.
"No. He's Not & You know exactly What I mean AJ." Meadow insisted clutching his arm tighter for emphasis.
"No.--I Don't Know What You Mean Meadow." AJ said looking sideways at her glaring back at him smiling.
"He's Mental--OK?!" Meadow snaps jerking his arm harder.
"Mental How?--Are you saying Jesus is a Retard Bing?!"
"NO AJ! IM NOT CALLING HIM THAT WORD!" Meadow pushes his arm away crossing her arms.
"So then What Word are you calling him Muff?!" A.J leans in taking back her arm.
"What I'm trying to say AJ is: You shouldn't Make Fun of Him because He's Special."
"Well He is Jesus--That Makes Him Special Enough!"
AJ teases her as he starts leading her across the street "Jay-Walking".
"COME ON MEADOW--I WANT YOU TO MEET JESUS!"
"OH NO YOU DONT ANTHONY JOHN SOPRANO!"
Meadow instant protest turned to a rush of panic when she realized AJ wasn't bluffing her as they stepped up off the curb:
"I'LL BE GODDAMNED--IS THAT YOU JESUS?!"
AJ happily approaches the Homeless Jesus standing with his "Old Rugged Cross" over his shoulder.
"Yes. Brother AJ--Its me Jesus in the Flesh."
The Homeless Icon warmly smiled as AJ half-hugs him while patting his back in front of Meadow--Stunned.
"You Know Him?!" Meadow cracks a smile.
"Yea. I told You I did Bing. Jesus & I go way back a decade or more! We met shortly after Dad's Murder."
AJ answered her without looking as he offers Jesus a cigarette & a light.
"Bless you Brother!" Jesus deeply inhales & exhales with a sigh:
"Have you been reading your Bible AJ?"
"HELL NO.--It's Not my Bible! It's Your's!" AJ honestly admits laughing looking at Meadow bearing witness to this street-encounter.
"So. Tell me then--Have you been Praying to the Father Anthony?"
The Homeless Jesus continued questioning as the cigarette quickly burned down.
"FUCK NO I DONT JESUS! HES YOUR FATHER! NOT MINE. MY FATHER IS FUCKING DEAD!"
AJ shot back.
Meadow quickly intercede sensing a spike in AJ's temperance.
"My Name is Meadow--Jesus! My Little Brother AJ here lacks the Manners we were raised with to introduce his older sister to you."
"God Bless you Sister Christian--Its God's Pleasure to meet you. AJ is a Good Man--
But he is Lost without God! Our Hope is he finds the Right Road that Leads to his Salvation!"
"You hear that Shit Meadow? He truly believes that

Meadow doesn't know how to answer either AJ or the smoking Homeless Jesus.
"The pleasure is all mine--Jesus. But I have to Run. Come on AJ. Walk me back across the street to my car now."
Meadow leans in to hug the homeless man & gave him a peck kiss on the cheek.
"Christ. Do you need anything before we Go?!" AJ asked as he hugs his old friend.
"No Brother AJ!--God Provides!"
The Homeless Jesus answers peering up to the Heavens exhaling the final drag before discarding the short hot smoldering cigarette butt to the curb.
"YEA--YEA. I KNOW THAT--GOD IS GOOD LIE!
LOOK AT HOW GOOD HE IS TO YOU--HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON!"
"OK--" Meadow jumps in between the two men & starts pressing AJ backwards while speaking to Jesus over her shoulder:
"It's Nice to meet you Jesus but I really have to get going before Afternoon Rush."
& Meadow grabs AJ's arm to lead him away.
"SEE YOU AROUND JESUS!"
AJ smiles waving as Meadow pushed him off the sidewalk curb to cross the street.
"Where are you Going in such a Big Hurry Sis?!"
"By the Sounds of it T?!--
TO HELL--WITH YOU!"
The two sated siblings laugh together hugging in agreement!
