Cleo Pagilieri had left the SNF WATCH Party early with the Giants losing 10 to 0 against the Cowoboys in Dallas at Halftime.

Sitting alone in the backseat of her aimless limousine under the bright night-lighys of NYC Cleo reclined nursing a strong drink & smoking a cigarette with the football game on the incoach flat-screen TV.

When her cellphone begins vibrating & lights up displaying MATTYO identifying the caller.

Cleo turns off the football game to answer:

"HELLO DEARY--AREN'T YOU STILL SUPPOSE TO BE WORKING MATILDA?!"

"OH--I AM WORKING!--BELIEVE YOU ME!"

"I just came out of a 10 ten ER surgery!--What are you doing?!"

"Oh Nothing--Just Riding Around: Fucking Jets lost today (Big Surprise!) & The Giants are losing to the Goddamn Cowboys as we speak. I just turned it off to talk to you." (That's Nice of you Clee.)

"Its Not where my head is I Guess?!-- Give me that Aaron Judge!--ALL DAY & ALL NIGHT! The Yankees Rolled today out in Texas racking up 16 Runs!

& The Rookie Man-Child went Yard Twice! He blasted two heat-seeking missiles out of the Oven-Hot Arlington Field!

That gives him 40 & 41 total this season with the test of the month to go until the Playoffs begin.

"HERE COMES THE JUDGE!" Matty chanted on the other end of the line.

"HE CAN COME FOR ME ANYTIME!"

Cleo giggles. (CLEO!--YOU'RE SO BAD!)

"I KNOW!--GUILTY AS CHARGED!" Cleo laughs in agreement with her long-time friend. They attended Columbia University together a decade before.

"Yea.--I missed out on all of the Sports today! I came in early at 11:00AM before my Noon-shift began. & Here they were wheeling this guy in on a gurney at 11:30 from bleeding out in back of a limo with three gun-shot wounds in his back:

"& The Race was On!"

(OH MY!)

"YEA.--HE WAS A REAL MESS!"

(SO YOU SAVED HIM?!)

"He's still alive if that's what you mean. He had lost so much blood & we could not keep up with his external & internal hemorrhaging. He Coded Twice on the Table." (Oh My God!--Twice?!)

The Xrays showed where three bullets entered his back & one went completely through--exiting the front side which collapsed his left lung.

But the real issue was there were still two bullets left inside that were both lodged in tight around his heart."

"FUCK MATTY! & You said he's still Alive?!"

"Yes. He's laying in an isolation glass ICU POST-OP room now on life-support for precautions sake.

He's in a medical induced coma to allow his body to recover peacefully from the Trauma of the shooting & then enduring another ten hours under the knife on the operating-table.

"That's So Scary Matilda!--I don't know how you do it? Well--I do know how you do it. But I don't envy you."

"Its all in a day's work. I can tell you I will sleep soundly tonight knowing we saved this one before getting up to do it all again tomorrow at noon.

"& You said he Coded Twice?!

"Yes.--The crazy part was Dr Stanbury told everyone to stand-down & wait to revive him as Dr Dan continued working quickly with both hands watching the clock on the walk before giving the command to: "Paddle Him!."

I had never seen that surgerical approach Clee. Then his blood pressure slipped again to Code a second time.

& Again Stanbury said: "Wait for my Command." Then after we brought him back he leveled out & his vitals stabilized but..." (BUT?!)

Dr Stanbury explained that allowing the patient to remain in that suspended state gave him the chance to stitch up more holes without the loss of the new blood from his pumping heart.

After the Second Flat-Line delay the doctor continued to gain time against the beating heart until we had complete wound closure & stabilized vitals at the end."

"BUT THEN THE FUCKING POWER BLACKED OUT!" (NO SHIT?!)

"I wish I was shitting you Cleo!

The Power surged twice before blacking out the entire ER Wing & rest of the hospital!!

(What Happened Then?!)

"The hospital auxiliary generators kicked on & We continued working by the orange amber glow of the security lights. (So--Did the Power come back on?!)

"NO.--ITS STILL DOWN. The night-guard said that there had been a bad multi Semi-Truck accident that took out a sub-station somewhere west of here. TrafficBacked-Up for Miles in all directions."

"Sounds like this guy of yours has a Real Angel on his Shoulder?!"

"Yea. Speaking of that Clee--Who was that guy in caught you with parking down by the East River?!

(Who?!)

"That's What I'm asking you Cleo.

What was that guys name?

You introduced me to him.

While you still sitting & grinding atop his lap?!"

A month ago?"

(You Mean AJ?!)

"YEA.--WHAT WAS HIS LAST NAME?!"

(Soprano--Why?)

"OK.--That's What I thought. Never-mind."

(Never-mind What?! Matilda.)

"This guy looks just like your AJ friend but his last name isn't Soprano. Maybe it was just the Suit he was wearing?" (SUIT?)

"Yea.--When he arrived in the ER we had to cut off his bloody bullet blooming Pagilieri Suit with surgerical shears to prep him for Emergency Surgery."

(What is his last name Matty?!)

"You know I can't tell you that Clee?!"

(Yea.--I know.)

"His name is John Anthony Weiss."

"WEISS?!"--

"YES. WEISS."

(CLICK.)

"CLEO?!

CLEE--ARE YOU STILL THERE?!"

Matty looks down at her phone screen to see Call Ended.

"Was it a dropped call or did she just hang up on me?"

MattyO asked herself as she hangs up to drop the cellphone into her front scrubs' pocket.

SUNDAY NIGHT

SEPTEMBER 10 2017

10:11 PM-EST

The Administrative Nurse Tonya Valentine approached Vito in the Family Waiting Room:

"Victor?!"

"Yes.--Please Call me Vito Tonya."

"Yes. Vito. Your brother has been transfered from the ER to an Isolation ICU w/a private family glass observation room.

"He is in a medical induced coma to allow his body to recover from the Trauma of being shot & enduring ten plus hours of surgery.

His vitals have stabilized & strong. He will remain in this suspended state for 48 to 72 Hours. So he will be here for a while." Tonya warmly smiles.

"You saved his life Victor--I mean: "Vito."

"Your prior Army Medic Training & knowing to apply direct pressure to the gun-shot wounds saved his life. He lost so much blood & would of been DOA. I just wanted you to know. You saved your brother's life."

Lastly Nurse Tonya informed Vito that his sister-in-law Stella had spoken to the Surgeon Dr. Daniel Stanbury at the conclusion of the successful surgery to debrief her on the particulars of her husband's life-saving operation.

Stella praised the Dr for his extreme effort to save her husband's life.

Then she told us that:

"He couldn't be in Better Hands

Then Here with You!"

Adding that AJ had been struck by three bullets entering his backside. One traveled through his body exiting out the front collapsing his left lung. & The other two slugs were lodged closely to his heart. Then throw in the Power Outage that had been finally restored moments earlier.

Nurse Matty Orlando showered & changed into clean green scrubs to leave the hospital for home at midnight after a +12 hour shift. She worked 4 days a week on & 3 days off when she wasn't on Call.

Matty went to make one last welfare check of AJ in the Isolated ICU before she clocked out for the night.
