"THE GAME"

The forest floor is a damp tapestry of decaying oak leaves, emerald moss, and fallen pine needles.

Out of the silent timberlands, a sleek black cat emerges, its movements fluid and unhurried. Its yellow-green eyes lock onto a sudden motion in the brush: a wounded blackbird, grounded and desperate.

The bird raises a single, dark wing, beating against the damp earth in a futile attempt to lift its broken frame into the safety of the canopy, its beak parted in a silent, frantic cry.

Instead of delivering a swift, merciful end, the cat pauses.

It sits back on its haunches, lifting a single paw with curved, gleaming claws extended, batting at the struggling creature not out of hunger, but out of a slow, sadistic curiosity.

It is the classic dance of the predator—a black cat toying with a dying bird, pretending to look away only to snap its paw back down the second the prey tries to drag itself forward.

For long, agonizing moments, the cat weighs its options, undecided whether to finally sink its teeth in and devour its prize or simply prolong the game.

With a sudden, decisive shift, it swoops in, snapping the bird up into its jaws, carrying the still-breathing captive deeper into the shadows of the woods.

Minutes pass, leaving behind a sudden, violent stillness. On the damp moss and scattered leaves lie only the remnants: a chaotic circle of dark, wind-ruffled feathers torn from the struggle.

A moment later, the black cat returns to the site of the kill, entirely uninterested in consuming the remains.

Instead, it rolls lazily onto its back right atop the pile of scattered black bird feathers, its tail twitching with satisfied contentment.

It lifts a dark paw to its face, licking it clean of the day's work, smoothing its fur in an unhurried ritual of grooming.

And then, as abruptly as the hunt began, the cat rolls back to its feet, leaving the dark, silent forest behind.

It walks steadily away from the scattered feathers and broken remnants on the ground, vanishing into the green haze of the trees,

The Cat leaving nothing behind for the woods to deduct from except the cold, quiet evidence of a game played and finished.
