Under a moonless January sky in 2026 the ancient sarsen stones of Stonehenge stand as silent, indifferent witnesses to a gathering that has not occurred in this form for centuries.
Within the inner horseshoe of trilithons, on the frost-kissed grass at the very center of the monument, two figures of immense infernal authority meet in what can only be described as the highest echelon war council of the final age.
The first entity manifests in the recognizable at seventy years of age though no human camera could ever quite capture the degree of malice that saturates his features.
His long, greasy black hair hangs in lank strands across a face carved with deep, permanent lines of rage and cunning. He wears an immaculate, light-devouring black ensemble: dress shirt, three-piece suit, vest, and overcoat of the same abyssal fabric that seems to drink surrounding starlight.
A heavy gold Albert chain drapes from the small pocket of his vest, terminating in an antique hunter-case pocket watch whose cover is engraved in ornate Gothic script with the words DOOMSDAY".
The watch is open in his left hand; its face shows no conventional hours—only concentric rings of Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic numerals that appear to be counting inexorably backward toward zero.
A single enormous ruby signet ring, blood-dark and faceted like a drop of congealed violence, weighs down the third finger of his right hand.

The truth is far more terrible: they are jointly reviewing the readiness matrix for the final sequence of Revelation’s judgments, cross-referencing the opened seals, the sounded trumpets, the poured bowls, and—most critically—the exact hour when the Doomsday Watch is authorized to strike zero.
Encircling them at a respectful distance, stationed among the fallen bluestones and in the shadows between uprights, are six high-ranking subordinates attending in their traditional animal-familiar guises.
Each is a Prince of the Second Fall, a general in the armies of the last days, now reduced to silent, listening beasts:
The Sentinel Raven— The Demon:

The Alpha Male Wolf— The Demon:

Enormous, coal-black, yellow eyes burning with disciplined fury. He paces a slow, endless figure-eight about thirty yards out, never taking his gaze from the two central figures. Commander of Fear & Territorial Division. The pack he once led now numbers in the hundreds of millions of human hearts.
The Black Rat—The Demon:

The Black Cat — The Demon:

Sleek, pantherine, eyes the color of dying embers. She sits perfectly upright on a recumbent stone, tail wrapped neatly around her paws, watching with an expression of aristocratic contempt. Overseer of Witchcraft, Divination, Seduction & Occult Revival. Her purr, if she were ever to utter it tonight, would be the sound of a million smartphone notifications calling the curious deeper into darkness.
None of the six familiars move closer than the perimeter of the inner circle. None interrupt.
They are there to bear witness, to memorize every inflection, every pause, every flicker of infernal intention, so that the orders that will cascade down through principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual wickedness in high places may be executed with perfect, merciless fidelity.
The handshake finally ends.
The Doomsday Watch is snapped shut with an audible metallic click that rolls across Salisbury Plain like distant thunder.
Two glasses are raised in a silent toast.
Cigar smoke swirls upward, momentarily blotting out the faint smear of the Milky Way.
Then, without another gesture, the two supreme commanders turn and walk in opposite directions—toward the northeast and southwest avenues respectively—disappearing into the night as though they had never been corporeal at all.
Behind them, the six animal princes remain exactly where they are, frozen in tableau, listening to the silence that follows the departure of the two most dangerous beings ever to walk the final chapters of human history.
The Stones of Stonehenge, five thousand years old, have seen many things.
But they have never seen anything quite like the calm, cigar-scented, rum-sipping prelude to Armageddon.
